CRIMINOLOGY

Students will develop their understanding of the nature, causes, and complexity of crime and criminal behaviour, including different types of crime, why crimes occur, why some remain unreported, and the wide-ranging impacts of crime on individuals, communities, employers, and society as a whole. Students will explore key criminological theories drawn from Psychology, Sociology, and Law, and examine how social, cultural, and psychological factors shape perceptions of crime and responses to justice. Learners will develop an understanding of the role of the Criminal Justice System and apply criminological knowledge to real-life and vocational contexts through the analysis of authentic case studies. The subject aims to equip students with strong analytical and transferable skills, including independent learning, research, problem-solving, collaboration, evaluation of evidence, and professional communication, while highlighting clear progression routes to further academic study and careers within criminology, law, psychology, sociology, and the wider criminal justice sector.
