As members of the Lincolnshire Children's Book Group, The Priory Ruskin Academy has been made aware of an amazing event that is a must for all Michael Morpurgo fans. Arranged by Waterstones of Boston, Michael Morpurgo, Virginia McKenna and Voices at the Door are performing Michael Morpurgo's book 'The Best Christmas Present In The World' at Boston's St Botolph's Church on Friday 9th December. In The Best Christmas Present in the World, the former Children’s Laureate revisits the trenches to tell the haunting story of Christmas 1914 when soldiers on both sides put down their weapons in honour of Christmas Day. It is certain to be a moving concert for the whole family.
Do you have reading books gathering dust? Students and staff at The Priory Ruskin Academy are currently collecting books to add to the shelves of our wonderful Reading Room.
On Friday 18th November The Priory Ruskin Academy held a special awards ceremony for their Year 8 accelerated learning group who, last summer when they were only in Year 7, successfully completed their AQA GCSE Foundation project at level 1, gaining them the equivalent of half a full GCSE.
Ruskin students and staff dug deep on Friday 18th November and raised £1207.66 for Children In Need…with money still coming in!
Students at The Priory Ruskin Academy collected over 50 shoeboxes as part of the Rotary shoebox appeal 2016. This year's collection was organised in line with tutor groups and the boxes were crammed full of all sorts of treats including little toys, colouring pencils, household items and toiletries.
Ruskin students took to the catwalk on 14th November when the Academy hosted an SOS charity fashion show. A range of fashion brands such as Topshop, White Stuff, Phase Eight, Dorothy Perkins, M&S and other major high street stores were on sale at a significantly reduced price.
The Grantham Foodbank was delighted to receive the wonderful food donations brought into the Academy by students over recent weeks.
The Priory Ruskin Academy's Festive Evening returns on Wednesday 30th November - 6.30pm to 9pm. Tickets are £3 for adults and £1.50 for under 16's and are available in advance from the Academy or you can buy on the door on the night. All proceeds will go to The Grantham Passage.
Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November saw the return of the Young Americans to Grantham. Billed as the flagship project of their UK tour, the community event managed by The Priory Ruskin Academy saw the largest number of students taking part in the biggest venue of the entire Young Americans UK tour.
On Monday 7th November all Year 7 and 8 girls were visited by Sophie Cleverley, well known author of the Scarlett & Ivy series. Sophie took time to explain how she became an author and also the process she takes when writing her books, including scene and character development.
Inspired by Paul Cummins and Tom Piper’s sculptures at the Tower of London, staff and students have been working incredibly hard to produce over 1300 poppies to be displayed in this beautiful installation at the front of the Academy for Remembrance Day 2016.
