Performing Arts and Music
“We must all do theatre, to find out who we are, and to discover who we could become”- Augusto Boal
The principal aim of the curriculum is to develop students' performance, written and transferable skills through the medium of Performing Arts.
The curriculum will:
- Be diverse, inspiring and aspirational; introducing students to a wide range of performance styles and texts;
- Subject specific knowledge: Enable students to develop fundamental performance skills across all mediums;
- Enhance cross-curricular links including (but not limited to) History, English and PSHE. Highlight the relevance of ‘the Arts’ as a subject and enable students to see how their developing skills can support learning in other subjects and beyond the classroom;
- Develop student’s literacy skills, both verbal and written;
- Develop student’s creativity, curiosity and interpersonal skills and enabling them to experience the world around them and appreciate other perspectives;
- Widen students' creative capital through watching and listening to a wide range of performance work;
- Provide a rich extra-curricular offering, including live performance, specialist clubs, trips and visits;
- Promote engagement with the Performing Arts industry and related careers and a life-long enjoyment of Performance and the Arts.
