The Priory Ruskin Academy Local Governing Body comprises:
Miss V Hammond, Chair of Governors
Victoria has worked in education for over 10 years. She has a BA (Hons) in Literature through the Open University and gained her Qualified Teacher Status at the Bishop Grosseteste University College, Lincoln. Victoria joined the governing body in 2017, inspired by having seen her own children thrive at the academy. She became the Chair of Governors in 2019.
Mrs Ros Gulson, Community (Vice Chair)
Prior to retirement, Ros enjoyed a career in education spanning 40 years. During that time she was Principal of an 11 to 18 academy with additional responsibilities at both national and local level. Currently, Rosalind is Chair of the school appeals' committees of one of the three national examining bodies. She also chairs the school admission appeals for a local authority. In 2005 Ros was awarded the OBE for services to education and since 2015 has been a governor at Ruskin.
Mr M Kalbassi, Community (Vice Chair)
A Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and a Chartered Scientist, Mos was born in Iran and came to England at the age of 16. Since graduating in Food Technology and Management Studies, Mos has spent over forty years in the Food Industry specialising in New Product Development and General Management. Married with two grown up children, he is a member of the Rotary Club of Grantham and past chairman of the local Parkinson's Support group . He has been a governor at Grantham College for over twenty years and served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and latterly as Chairman of Governors until 2019.
Mrs Theresa Buhryn, Community
Prior to retirement Theresa worked in Children’s Services for some 35 years as a social worker and manager. Theresa is passionate about improving the life chances of children particularly those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable. Theresa has one son, who is a teacher. She takes a keen interest in the education of her grandchildren and also enjoys hearing children read at her local village primary school.
Mr Brett Dixon, Parent
Brett is the Managing Director of an established marketing agency and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Having worked in senior positions of various businesses operating in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, Brett has a wealth of experience in various business settings from both an operational and marketing perspective. Brett is married with one daughter who attends The Priory Ruskin Academy. In his spare time, Brett likes to travel with family and has a keen interest in motorsport.
Mrs Victoria Geeson, Support Staff
Vicki joined the Governing Body as a Staff Governor over 5 years ago and has been a member of staff at Ruskin since 2008. Community is central to Vicki’s role at the academy and she has coordinated numerous local, national and international charities building strong community links along the way. A mother of two, Vicki’s youngest son successfully completed his Sixth Form studies at the academy in 2019, and is currently studying Law at university. Outside of her work at the academy, Vicki is a keen runner and is a member of Grantham Running Club.
Mr Peter Murphy, Teaching Staff
Peter is a member of staff at Ruskin and was appointed as a Governor in 2007, which also included 4 years as Staff Trustee on The Priory Federation of Academies Trust Board. He brings a wealth of educational experience, with over 20 years teaching practice, having held numerous senior positions including, most recently, Head of House at The Priory Ruskin Academy. Peter has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. He is originally from the Grantham area and has close community connections. During his spare time Peter is an active traveller and lover of the outdoors. He participates in many activities including camping, hiking, running and surfing. In the past few years he has taken up scuba diving and, as well as diving around the world, is now an instructor for BSAC.
Mrs Ese Oduyoye, Parent
Ese works as a Cybersecurity Expert, having worked in IT for over 20 years. She has a master’s degree in Computer and Internet Applications from the University of Bedfordshire and volunteers as a STEM Ambassador. She is originally from Nigeria and moved to Luton for a master’s degree. Ese then spent the next 13 years working in London before moving to Grantham in 2019. Outside of work, Ese enjoys travelling and reading.
Mrs Veronica Slater, Community
Veronica joined the Governing Body in 2014 following a successful career as a School Business Manager in the secondary education sector. She has vast experience in all aspects of running a school and, following her time as Clerk to the Governors, a comprehensive understanding of the role of the Governor. Since her retirement Veronica has become a member of the Grantham U3A and serves on their committee. She is an active member of the local Methodist Church and has been secretary to a number of organisations including the Grantham Foodbank. A mother to four children, two step-children and grandmother to nine grandchildren, Veronica is passionate about education and the important role it plays in supporting our young people to achieve their potential and develop into well rounded adults.
Mrs Natalie Smith, Parent
Natalie has worked in education for 19 years. She has a BA (hons) in Childhood and Youth and a degree in special educational needs and disabilities, gained at Bishop Grosseteste University. Natalie is originally from the Leeds area and has lived in Grantham for the last nine years, with her three children, one a former student of The Priory Ruskin Academy and one who currently attends. Special educational needs are central to Natalie’s role at a local junior school as an Assistant SENCO and pupil premium champion and is passionate about education and the important role it plays in supporting young people to achieve their potential and develop into well rounded adults through cultural capital. Natalie enjoys walking in and around the local area with her younger children and regularly attends a local church.
Mrs Louise Stevenson, Parent
Louise has worked in the public sector since 2001 and through this work her special interest is in the protection and safeguarding of children and to let “their voices” be heard. Louise has three children who attend The Priory Ruskin Academy.
