Course Description

The ‘BTEC First Award in Hospitality’ is an exciting and engaging course. The course is a vocational qualification aimed at students with an interest in the Hospitality Industry.

This qualification may be for you if you are looking to pursue a career which may involve Reception, Concierge, Conference and Banqueting Manager, Hotel and Bar Managers and Food Technologists in food manufacturing to name just a few.

The delivery of this course includes: class based theory in preparation for an exam and written course work that is submitted to the awarding body as well as practical learning in the kitchen. You will have the opportunity to visit employers and workplaces that     contribute to the local hospitality economy and local and national food shows.

Course Structure:

To complete the course, students will need to complete the 4 units below. Unit 1 is exam based which is externally moderated, units, 2, 3 and 6 are coursework / practical based unit which is internally moderated.

Why study this subject?

If you are interested in studying this subject at KS4 you will have the opportunity to develop your hosting skills together with food preparation and cooking. Transferable skills such as problem solving, organisation and time management, planning and communication will also be developed throughout the course.

This qualification will also give you an overview of the hospitality industry and the type of job roles that may be available to assist you in making choices about progression.

Successful completion of this qualification could lead to:

· Level 2 Certificate in Professional Food and Beverage Service Skills

· Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery

· Level 2 Apprenticeships in Hospitality and catering/ Food and Drink
